MORNINGSIDE atlanta

real estate

Morningside is a residential neighborhood popular among Atlanta’s older—but no less hip—crowds. Like its southerly neighbor Virginia-Highland, Morningside’s real estate comes with a high price tag, yet residents will attest that it’s worth every dollar. In fact, it shares many similarities with ViHa, having been developed only a decade or so after. You’ll quickly notice that much of the architecture is comprised of timeless Craftsmen bungalows and pastoral Tudor Revival cottages from the early decades of the 20th century, often renovated and restored for the 21st. Morningside is the past amalgamation of several original neighborhoods, namely Morningside, Lenox Park, University Park, Noble Park, Johnson Estates and Hylan Park—all of which, over the decades, have shaped the neighborhood’s warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Exploring morningside

Morningside Routine

Although predominantly residential, Morningside does have a few haunts around the neighbourhood definitely worth a visit. Amsterdam Walk, for example has shops at the southwestern corner of the neighborhood converted from old warehouses and industrial buildings. And while there is a cluster of independent businesses found on North Highland Ave in the southern parts of Morningside, going even further south on that road into the heart of Virginia-Highland will lead you to more trendy eateries, bars and boutiques. Morningside Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturday mornings if you ever get the craving to sample artisan-quality goods and fresh, healthy local produce.

In Morningside you’ll find a good amount of public greenspaces and walking and biking trails to enjoy on leisurely days, most notably at the Morningside Nature Preserve, which has over 30 acres of forest and the Daniel Johnson Nature Preserve, with miles of scenic floodplain trails to explore. Of course, there’s always the 189-acre urban masterpiece that is Piedmont Park, which Morningside shares with Ansley ParkMidtown and Virginia-Highland neighborhoods. Also, if you’re ever feeling a bit of that Morningside community spirit, the annual Morningside Mile race gives you a chance to help restore and save the historic Virginia Highland Station 19 (the city’s oldest fire station still in operation today), which has long been a community landmark for the surrounding area.
